It's no secret that the Spanish know their hams. Their Serrano (or mountain) ham, considered a national treasure, is well loved by gourmands all over the world for its intense flavour and subtle sweet, lingering after-taste.

Even more highly prized is jamón Ibérico. This rare ham, which makes up just 8% of Spain's cured ham production, takes more than two years to cure. Silky in texture, it is deeply flavourful, with marbled creamy fat from the famous black-footed Iberian pigs of western Spain. These hogs lead a carefree life, roaming the forests and consuming up to 20 pounds of acorns (or bellotas, in Spanish) a day.

And now jamón Ibérico is available in Singapore. Selling the prized meat is ThreeSixty MARKET PLACE, a spanking new gourmet store located at ION Orchard, the city's biggest upmarket retail phenomenon.

Opened just last month, ThreeSixty MARKET PLACE is probably the most exciting thing to have happened in the city's food scene in a while. Measuring an impressive 10,000 sq ft, it promises to be a one-stop location for the world's leading culinary brands.

"We aim to become the haute couture gourmet store right in the heart of Orchard Road," says Mr Choo Peng Chee, CEO, Supermarkets of Cold Storage Singapore, which runs ThreeSixty MARKET PLACE.

"In line with the direction that ION Orchard is taking as the mall for established and high-profile brands and lifestyle products, we too have brought in a stellar line-up of premium brands from around the world," he adds.

These premium brands include, of course, established luxury food labels Fauchon and Hédiard, but the icing on the cake is the glamorous gastro temple Dean & DeLuca. Born in SoHo, New York, this Epicurean heaven is popular for its herbs and spices, cookies, cakes and coffee; just to name a few. Other specialty-food lines worth checking out include Stonewall Kitchen, Canterbury Naturals and Cooks' Ingredients.

The store also has a huge organic selection featuring some 1,000 items. Get hold of snacks like lollipops, ice-cream, chocolate crumble fudge, and sun dried banana chips. Or dive into the kitchen with organic cooking ingredients like lavender sugar, mango chutney, and vanilla pods. There are also organic meats, fruits, and vegetables for fresh food lovers.

Wine lovers, meanwhile, will be pleased to know that the store has at least 600 labels to choose from, including a select range of Fauchon fine wines and spirits.

Finally, for the Francophiles out there, ThreeSixty MARKET PLACE will satisfy your cravings for foie gras and unpasteurised cheeses. The delicatessen is offering Delices de St. Cyr's Morin, Chaumont, Coeur D'arras, Saint-Marcelin and Tricorne, amongst others.

On top of the impeccable selection of foods, ThreeSixty MARKET PLACE also has a knife-sharpening service, free with any purchase. Butchers will sharpen your knives while you shop. Another service available is the loan of wine glasses for dinner and office parties.

"The store aims to capture the attention of the très chic gourmands who… seek the finer things in life. They may be the well-travelled Singaporeans, the expat community or visitors to Singapore," a spokesperson for ThreeSixty MARKETPLACE says.
