Visitors to Bangkok are often fascinated by the dizzying variety of options the city's nightlife has to offer. But for the residents of the Ascott Bangkok Sathorn, nothing beats unwinding at "home" after that long, hard day in the office.

Imagine being by the pool, surrounded by lush greenery and shimmering candle lights. You sip a delicious Sauvignon Blanc as a soothing, cool breeze ushers in the evening...

"It's nice to come down for a drink in the evening and relax over a glass of wine," says Tom Gallagher, a banker from the UK and resident at the Ascott Bangkok Sathorn. "The ambience is very calming and reminds me of being in the Mediterranean."

Besides the first-rate food and quality wines, the poolside restaurant also has a treat for art lovers. It has the largest collection of Aldo Luongo paintings outside of North America. Indeed, Luongo is the source of the restaurant's inspiration - and, of course, name. The Argentine-born, US-based artist is famous for his Hawk series of paintings, which represent the hunger of life and living it to the fullest.

Aldo's is "dedicated to those who enjoy the good life," declares Olivier Castella, the restaurant's executive chef and director of food and beverage.

And what's good life without good food? At the heart of Aldo's cuisine is delicious, healthy Mediterranean cooking, with its legendary emphasis on greens, fish, whole grains, fruits, and olive oil.

A classic example is the Riviera Wellness Salad, featuring seared red tuna, soft cheese and plenty of yummy, antioxidants-rich fruits (kiwi, fig, mango, papaya); topped with four kinds of nuts and lemon extra virgin olive oil dressing. Try also the grilled red tuna, served with rocket and a fennel and vinaigrette sauce; or the Mediterranean lamb shank stew, slow cooked in red wine with olives and tomatoes.

"Our guests do enjoy the experience of dining by the pool and find it very convenient, instead of having to fight Bangkok's famous traffic to head out for a meal," Jason Chen, Residence Manager of the Ascott Bangkok Sathorn, says.

The serviced residence is nicely located in the capital's business and commercial district. The shopping and entertainment districts along Silom and Sukhumvit roads are just minutes away.

For those looking for a little local colour, the Ascott Bangkok Sathorn also organises celebrations of Thai festivals by the poolside. During Loy Krathong, for instance, residents get to light floating krathongs (hand-made banana-leaf vessels) and "release" them onto the water, an act the Thais believe will bring good luck.

Then there's Hu'u Epicure and Bar, which not only provides all-day dining, but is also a über chic lounge bar by night, beloved by Bangkok's cool and beautiful. Also highly popular is Japanese restaurant Nanjya Monjya, where the high traffic of Japanese clientele bears testament to its quality and authentic cuisine.

As part of the luxury serviced residence's commitment to service excellence, "all the F&B outlets also provide room service to all apartments and hold special F&B events from time to time which residents can participate in," notes Chen.

Indeed the team at the Ascott Bangkok Sathorn always goes all out of its way to make its guests and residents feel at home.

"We sometimes organise day trips to local markets - led by our Management & Guest Service team - so our guests and residents can experience truly local food without having to worry about language or directions," says Mr Chen.

"During Songkran (the Thai New Year), we provided a wide selection of local delicacies, including young coconut and everyone's favourite 'Sticky Rice with Mango', local beer and juices, which were a hit with our guests and residents."

Residents keen on discovering Bangkok's diverse culinary delights in the comfort of their own apartments will love the Food By Phone (FBP) food-delivery service.

The novel idea is a tie-up between the Ascott Bangkok Sathorn and many of the city's more popular restaurants that allows guests and residents to order from their menus. A simple touch dial will connect you to the FBP operator and menus are available in the apartments. The service offers both Thai and international cuisines.

"In Bangkok, food is always at the forefront of everyone's minds," says Mr Chen. "So we always aim to find something new or different for our guests and residents."
