While millions of people, businesses and governments worldwide switched off their lights for one hour for Earth Hour on 31 March 2012, 8.30pm (GMT+8), CapitaLand’s 235 CapitaLand properties across 79 cities in Asia and Europe switched off their facade and non-essential lightings for extended hours throughout the night. This is CapitaLand’s fifth year of participation in this annual global sustainability movement. Its commitment to do more for the environment is not new, nor limited to Earth Hour. It actively pursues leadership in green buildings and has been constantly promoting programmes such as Building A Greener Future to increase environmental awareness and to engage its stakeholders in making a difference to the environment. CapitaLand also supports eco-initiatives and wildlife conservation through the Group’s role as the Presenting Sponsor and Conservation Donor of the Giant Pandas Collaborative Programme.

Following the success of Ice Cream Day (Ice Cream Day Gallery) earlier this year comes Kit Kat Day, another innovative initiative brought about by CapitaCommercial Trust's (CCT) Tenant Engagement programme for 2011 (Building Bonds With A Sweet Surprise). The programme is part of CCT's increasing efforts to connect with its tenants in an informal and fun manner while showing it is a landlord who cares for them. In the month of September, Kit Kat bars were handed out to CCT tenants during lunch time at its eight properties: Capital Tower, Six Battery Road, One George Street, Raffles City Tower, HSBC Building, Wilkie Edge, Bugis Village and Golden Shoe Car Park.

Entering its second year, this regional photography competition received over 1,200 photo entries from Asia Pacific and Europe, including countries such as Singapore, China, Australia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and France. Breathtaking images of CapitaLand properties in Singapore and overseas were captured by photography enthusiasts. Among the works are three winning entries and three special commendations, chosen by renowned National Geographic photographer Catherine Karnow and the judging panel from CapitaLand. A "Voters' Choice Award" was also presented to the entry that received the most votes from online public voting from 7 to 21 July 2011.

A "Building People" photography exhibition of over 140 entries had also taken place at ION Station, Basement 4 (ION Orchard, Singapore) from 6th to 9th August 2011 to showcase entries that creatively portray the way CapitaLand properties in Asia Pacific and Europe enhances the landscape and how people interact with these buildings every day. Ice Cream Day is part of CapitaCommercial Trust's Tenant Engagement Programme for 2011. Starting from this year, CCT has embarked on this programme which comprises a series of activities aimed at engaging tenants at all its seven properties (Capital Tower, One George Street, Raffles City Tower, HSBC Building, Wilkie Edge, Bugis Village and Golden Shoe Car Park) and showing tenants that CCT is a landlord who is different from other landlord as it cares about their needs.

Ice cream Day is the first 'small delight' / treat that CCT is giving its tenants. There will be a 2^nd treat upcoming in the next half of this year.
