![]() The new condominium at Bishan Central in Singapore joins the ranks of other works by international architect Moshe Safdie that draw design elements from his classic Habitat 67 Designed by renowned international architect Moshe Safdie as a distinctive example of new urban living, this upcoming condominium is located in the heart of Bishan Central, one of Singapore's choice residential areas. It is a five-minute walk to the Bishan transportation hub - comprising the Bishan bus interchange and Bishan MRT interchange - and is close to Junction 8 shopping mall and Bishan Park. Sitting on a 11,997-square-metre site, this twin-towered development promises stylish cosmopolitan living in a cosy heartland setting. "Moshe Safdie's extraordinary design will transform the urban landscape of Bishan, one of Singapore's most popular residential estates. We are confident that the landmark project will be well-received by homebuyers who value distinctive design by an internationally renowned star architect, excellent accessibility, close proximity to retail, entertainment and recreational facilities, as well as reputable local and international schools," said Mr Wong Heang Fine, Chief Executive Officer of CapitaLand Residential Singapore. Apart from the integrated resort Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, Safdie's international works which were recently completed or still under construction include the Golden Dream Bay, a high-density residential beachfront community in Qinhuangdao, China and the Mamilla Alrov Center, a dynamic urban centre near the Old City in Jerusalem. ![]() The sky bridges connect the two towers and create communal spaces for residents' interaction with one another One of the most distinctive features of the condominium is the fact that its two 38-storey towers, comprising approximately 500 units, are a departure from the usual individual towers that mark most high-rise developments. Instead, the two structures are linked to each other by three bridging "sky gardens". Explaining his rationale, Safdie said this concept creates a three-dimensional matrix of homes, public gardens and private terraces and also frames open views to the city. Residents on the towers' upper floors will be able to enjoy breathtaking views of lush greenery of the nearby Bishan Park. Safdie's non-traditional approach also connects residents to nature, light, and air by incorporating lush expanses of greenery both horizontally and vertically. The apartments, ranging from 680 square feet to 3,000 square feet, are stacked in a distinctive "stepping form," allowing private garden spaces for a large number of units. Plenty of greenery also encompasses the buildings which have bountiful outdoor terraces. At ground level, walking paths are lined with native palm trees. ![]() Keeping nature close, many of the units are designed with their own private gardens ![]() Located in the heart of Bishan, the condominium is linked to amenities like Junction 8 shopping mall and good transportation links "While providing an unprecedented quality of life, mitigating a sense of density and concentration and maximising contact with nature, the complex also results in a village-like clustering of residential units, echoing hillside developments and the integration of architecture and plant life into a singular experience," said Safdie. In addition, the matrix of balconies along with the canyon-like void created between the two towers promote cross ventilation through the interior spaces, ensuring a flow of cooling natural breezes while maximising views for families and for community spaces. Truly, the sky gardens and leisure spaces create communal areas which provide opportunities for residents to connect with each other, while giving rise to an overall mass that is porous and open. Residents will have the benefit of a full suite of recreational facilities such as a 50-metre lap pool, leisure and children's pools, play areas, a tennis court, barbeque pits, function rooms, karaoke rooms and a gymnasium.
